  Targeting Well-defined Audience Segments

contra los elementos, originally uploaded by luzdelsur.

Accessing the Internet at high speeds has several positive effects on Internet usage resulting in higher connectivity and new sorts of services.

Due to better transparency today its possible to reach one's audience when they are searching online, while researching a product or service and when they are spending time online on activities like social networking or watching videos.

I'm expecting more new touch-points in 2008 due to an evolving digital landscape, just thinking of innovative messaging services...

Phantastic capture, taken at Playa Chica, Tarifa, Spain, southernmost point of Europe.

A Favorite Ski Resort, l'Espace Killy, Val d'Isere

DSC01505, Originally uploaded by chevaliermorgan.

Val d'Isère is known for its charming "chalet" architecture and the "l'Espace Killy", one of the largest ski areas in the world reaching from 1785 m–3599 m of altitude offering 300km of piste plus breathtaking off piste skiing.

This year's season started already with lot's of snow beyond 100 cm, the photo shows the center of Val d'Isere in Dec/2007as an amazingly quiet winter idyll covered in deep snow. Excellent precausions for the coming ski season, and of course an excellent photo.

Fascination Speed: New MB World Speed Record

What do high-speed ski racing and downhill mountain biking have in common? They share the same locations while chasing for new speed records. It's just incredible:

The Austrian Markus Stöckl (Kitzbühel) has set a new world speed record for series mountain bikes (Intense M6 bike) on a 2000 m long and 45° steep speed track in La Parva, Chilean Alps. With a speed of 210.4 km/h (130.7 mph) he exceeded his 8 year old record from Les Arcs, French Alps, by 23 km/h (14 mph). (Via MS Racing Blog)

Expedition White Nile - Extreme Paddling, Rafting, Kayaking
Bujagali Falls, a stunningly beautiful White Nile treasure, which is about 10km from Jinja, Uganda, situated at the source of the Nile at Lake Victoria, part of the African Great Lakes, is the center of some of the most extreme spots with water falls throughout the year and one of the most famous places in the world when it comes to paddling, rafting and kayaking white water rapids, washing machines and waterfalls.

It's just amazing how many high quality clips contributed by a very specialized community can be found in my AJAX-powered video search further down just by typing 'White Nile'. Those videos are attractive, entertaining, hype and innovative because they represent a service that would not make a commercial sense from a traditional media point of view.

  Summer Travel Trip: Petra, Jordan

Petra, Jordan

After a Camel Safari into the Sunset of Dahab, exhausting Fun and Freestyle in the Gulf of Aqaba and exotic Free Diving Dahab's Canyon it's worth to visit the Nabatean city of Petra, a breathtaking wonderland of temples, tombs and elaborated buildings out of solid rock.

Coming from Dahab, Egypt crossing the borderline to Israel and Jordan, Petra is located in a basin among the mountains which form the eastern flank of Arabah (Wadi Araba), the large valley running from the Dead Sea to the Gulf of Aqaba( Dahab).

Being nearly a world wonder Petra is part of several spectacular movies filmed in Petra like Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade (1989), Mortal Kombat: Annihilation (1997), The Mummy Returns, (2001).

1000 km Offshore RIB Race accross the Red Sea

RIB - Rigid Inflatable Boats

Recently I found this video about offshore powerboat racing by coincidence typing Red Sea into my Video Search further below. Having a passion for travel and sports I started a bit of research about RIBs, Rigid Inflatable Boats and it's amazing what kind of highly specialized active community has built around RIBs.

The Red Sea usually is known for strong northern winds and rough choppy waves which make it an excellent place for extreme water sports like windsurfing or kite surfing so I wondered why they took the Red Sea as destination of choice, but participating RIBs powered up to 2 x 300 horse powers are special, they can also cope even with rougher seas like the Red Sea and due to their low weight RIBs often out-perform other similarly sized and powered boats.

The 2006 Red Sea Rib Rally seemed to have been such a success - it was broad casted by Sky News and EuroSport - but I could hardly find any blogs or flickr photos, I hope the 2007 remake will provide a better coverage, best coverage provided Google AJAX search, a combined YouTube/GoogleVideo search further below (Red Sea Rib Rally).

The race from Sharm-El-Sheikh to El Gouna (Abu Tig Marina) to Marsa Alam (Port Ghalib) then north against wind and waves to Soma Bay and back to Sharm also reminded me a bit of the famous Paris-Dakar Off Road Rally.

There will be a repeat in October 2007 (starting on Oct. 27th - Nov. 4th 2007) and since there is no other comparable event around I think that it could become the water equivalent of the Paris-Dakar Off Road Rally for RIBs.

Camel Safari into the Sunset of Dahab

amigo dahab. Originally uploaded by ohegazy71.

Those who like it are crazy about it. People say that there is simply no better way to explore the vast area of the Sinai Peninsula guided by Bedouins.

The Dromedary eco-behavioural adaptations include the ability to withstand long periods without fresh water, it's an ideal vessel to cruise around and experience the Sinai desert.

Fun and Freestyle in Dahab: Spocks, Grubbys, Diablos, Flakas

Featuring Laure Treboux, SUI4, on Naish

Her comment: 'Warm water, strong wind, great people... Dahab is an awesome place.' See her sponsors:
Acting like an aircraft wing the peninsula of Dahab spots 5 km into the Gulf of Aqaba and produces 300 days of wind from 4 Beaufort upwards, water 22°-28°C, air 20°-40°C.

When I was there I spent my time at the Coralia and I remember two excellent flat water spots and a wave spot outside in the Gulf of Aqaba with extremely strong winds, I used the 4.5 qm all the time.

Assalah (Dahab) with its sprawling conglomeration of palm trees, shops, campgrounds, hotels, bars, restaurants and dive spots isn't far away. It's a great experience for surfing (kite and wind) and diving as well as for excursions into the desert.

Far Beyond the Mainstream: Free Diving Dahab's Canyon

Free diving the Canyon in Dahab, Gulf of Aqaba

Located in the middle between the straits of Tiran in the south and the borders of Israel, Egypt and Jordan in the north of the eastern coastline of the Sinai Peninsula at 28°33.294N , 34°31.257E the reef along the coast of the Gulf of Aqaba has a large gap and a small entry, the Fish Bowl at 14m that leads into the Canyon down to a sandy platform at 30m and an exit at 18m just vertically above.

Amazing, sportive and very individual, this free dive in Dahab's Canyon without any scuba gear, but with a very specialized free diving equipment, spectacular!

The reef starts right on the beach and the Canyon isn't far away. It's an excellent scuba dive site, too, especially early in the morning when the sun comes up, later in the day it's a bit crowded due to its popularity. It's recommended for advanced divers.

Dahab is an entry point to a series of spectacular dive sites. Very experienced technical divers know, that the Canyon has a second exit at 52m and a last one at 75m just before the drop-off into the abyss, well there is also Neptune's Chair a bit further below. And the famous Blue Hole. Check out the Blue Hole Project.

Finding Rosalie Moller on the Northern Safari Route

Featuring Jolanda Reef, Carnatic, SS Thistlegorm, Rosalie Moller

The southern scuba diving safari tour through the Red Sea near Elphinstone or Brother Islands usually is very exciting and meets even the highest level of expectations inducing thrilling moments diving with Oceanic White Tip Sharks even for advanced and professional divers while the northern safari route through the Red Sea is famous for its sunken ship wrecks.

The Video features the Jolanda Reef near Sharm el Sheik (one of the most famous of the northern Red Sea dive sites, but very busy) and famous ship wrecks such as the Carnatic (one of the older wrecks in the Red Sea), the SS Thistlegorm (busy as Piccadilly Circus) and the Rosalie Moller (one of the best wreck dives in the Red Sea), which can be found at 27° 39' 03" N, 33° 46' 17"E West of Gobal Sheghir (Northern Red Sea) in a depth starting at 17m (top of Forward Mast) down to 50 m at Bows and best be visited by Safari Boat from Hurghada and occasionally from Sharm El Sheikh and is recommended to advanced scuba divers due to it's depth.

Thrilling Moments Diving with Oceanic White Tip Sharks

Red Sea Diving Safari: Marsa Shagra, Southern Egypt

Amazing: Being so close to Oceanic White Tip sharks that one could touch them - probably the guy in the boat thinks about whether to dive or better not.

Extensive opportunity watching Oceanic White Tips swimming towards the camera, circling underneath and swimming away again, fantastic pictures and thrilling scenes throughout the video.

The potential of sharing videos is to reach participators not bounded to a single geographical region and thus to broaden reach and to attract the attention of niche markets and markets that did not exist before. More:

Fantastic Shot of a Sailfish Raising it's Sail

Sailfish Sails By, originally uploaded by Rob Hughes.

Although diving extensively in tropical open waters I've never been lucky to meet a Sailfish. Reaching speeds of up to 68 m/h it's the fastest fish on the ocean, it's an exiting and extraordinary opportunity to shoot such a photo of a Sailfish with it's sail raised. I'm really jealous.

  Fog at Sunrise in Dubai

Fog at sunrise in Dubai, originally uploaded by Harry Lambert.

Flying with Emirates to a dive trip on the Maldives involves 9 h of pure flight time from Fankfurt/Germany to Male/Maldives and usually requires one stop in Dubai, well nothing special about that, usually it's clear sky and a hot sunny weather. The more I got surprised when I stumbled upon this amazing photo.

Most Breathtaking Sports Arena, Lake Garda, Italy
In some of my extensive travels abroad I visited Lake Garda, a wonderful place in the north of Italy. Lake Garda was formed when the glaciers of the alpine ridge went back due to global warming and left one of the most fantastic outdoor sports arenas in its northern part including surfing, sailing, mountain biking, climbing, paragliding, horsebackriding and golfing.

CC by Thgoiter
The winds are fantastic and thermic, typically accompanied by clear sky in the morning and dimmish air in the afternoon, extremely strong and fresh from the mountains the Vento in the morning and almost every afternoon the warm Ora from the south. The scenery is breathtaking and absolutely amazing, sailing with high mountains all around you and right under large cliff faces. Best spots in the morning are near Malcesine, Tremosine and Al Pra, in the afternoon near Conca D'Oro, Torbole and the Hotel Pier right under the cliff faces.
Vento:
Ora:

The best thing after high-wind sailing is of course a breakfast with some great italian cappucino and paste in one of the bars with a view to the lake, the large cliff faces, olive groves and lush pine vegetation. Torbole offers a vibrant cafe life, a lakeside promenade and of course splendid views of the activities on the water and a good recovery for the afternoon. More outdoor:

Hot Summer Trip to Ibiza, Spain
Ibiza Town is the most fascinating town of the island including a natural beauty of beaches, a fairytale architecture and a vibrant, cosmopolitan atmosphere by night. I'm there once a year to spend a long weekend for recreation, swimming and watersports - and of course for what Ibiza is most known - clubbing and nightlife.

A typical day starts at 7.30am and includes: Get up (even it's hard), get onto the motorbike to find a beautiful beach, dive into the exceptionally clean waters of Cala Conta, enjoy sun and beachlife, play backgammon, have a fresh fruit cocktail, in the afternoon go to St. Antonio, book a boating trip along the west coast to Es Vedra, watch the dolphins there, on the way back jump from the boat into the ocean in front of Cala d'Hor, see the house of Rod Stewart, well it's more like a large west coast villa, return to St. Antonio and start to chill out near Cafe del Mar, return to Eivissa and prepare for nightlife.

Pacha , Ibiza
Traditionally the Clubs in Ibiza are very exclusive, but with a bit of luck it's possible to get a ticket in one of the bars near the harbor. Before one does that, it's recommended to investigate which club is hip to start after midnight. With a capacity for over 3000, the Pacha Club still remained very intimate compared to the Privilege, the world's largest club, and it's easy to find 10 min of walk away from the old town on the other side of the harbor. I'm looking forward to visit beautiful Ibiza next time!
