Custom Search Module for AJAX Libraries and Toolkits
Having a passion for AJAX I did a bit of research on AJAX libraries and toolkits mostly based on free OpenSource technology and updated my
Custom AJAX Search Engine to extract information quickly with precision.
AJAX is based on open standards like JavaScript, HTML, CSS, DOM and DOM Events, XMLHttpRequest, XML and SVG, highly available in most modern Web-browsers and compatible with existing Web development technologies allowing a smooth transition to next generation Web-Apps with a strong ROI.
Currently it searches more than
30 top libraries and toolkits:

Developing rich user experiences with RIA technologies such as AJAX makes Web-based applications response quickly and intuitive like a typical desktop application. Instead reloading a page after the old click-wait-refresh model the AJAX application stays on a page continuously while the AJAX engine handles data exchange with the server.
Building the case, AJAX Web-applications provide enormous advantages compared to conventional Web-applications, they avoid slow response times and scrolling after the page has reloaded thus improve end-user productivity, lower bandwidth consumption and costs by partial page updates and reduce the time to wait for the next page.
Applied to eCommerce systems AJAX even increases revenues making new applications easy and intuitive reducing the amount of friction for end-users.

Wayback Machine, a Look into 2004
Although I'm more a person that looks
ahead sometimes I'm looking back into time and this time I looked into the
Internet Archive via the
Wayback Machine and found a great project I did in 2004, nearly three years ago and very advanced for that time when nobody talked about Web-OS, AJAX and CO.
That time I just needed a flexible
CMS for my personal needs, international presentation and collaboration and launched an international platform containing the LAMP based
Typo3 CMS including blog, press center,
eCards,
eShop, cross format search, account area with subscriptions, multimedia center, banner management, downloads, contact management, business intelligence,
multisite,
multilanguage, automatic language detection:
german/
english and many more useful features.
With a focus on content and community that platform provided a starting point and gateway to other resources on the
Internet or intranet. Visitors and customers could communicate, share interests and process their business in an efficient way. Internet technology
layed the foundations therefor: The high dynamic of digital economy requires a continuous evolution and
adjustment of the business concept.
Here some Screenshots:

Today the
OpenSource based
Typo3 is among the
Top 100 most
influencial IT companies that innovate and deliver products and services that further the evolution of digital content. Other members are Adobe, Apple, 37Signals...
Wikipedia about the
Internet Archive:
'The Internet Archive (IA) is a non-profit organization dedicated to maintaining an archive of Web and multimedia resources. Located at the Presidio in San Francisco, California, this archive includes "snapshots of the World Wide Web" (archived copies of pages, taken at various points in time)'.

My favorite OpenSource AJAX toolkits include
DOJO,
PROTOTYPE-based
RICO and
SCRIPT.ACULO.US, which supports
Gucci and
Apple Aperture. Another interesting framework represents the upcoming OpenLaszlo project
Legals, which is projected to be available by the end of the year 2006.
Ajax toolkits usually provide cross-platform and cross-browser independence, are compatible to existing web development technologies allowing a smooth transition to next generation Web-Apps with a strong
ROI.

Winning OpenSource Frameworks in Web 2.0
When I started computing more than a decade ago I remember it took me weeks to learn a new program for
self-expression, calculation or collaboration. Today it's
fun, it takes me about five minutes total, it doesn't require any skills and within seconds I can take part in a worldwide distributed
live-communication.
In an enterprise employees usually are organized in different roles around issues. Issues are identified during meetings, in conferences and discussions, then resolved between the meetings. Complex
workgroups often require more than just a blog, they require customizations, document storage, discussion groups, conference scheduling, session management, security, ease of use and beyond.
The open source community provides various tools that offer a useful environment for complex Web 2.0 applications and can help an organization to
- take advantage of the new social and workplace trends
- lower costs and improve functionality
- embrace innovative new products, services and applications
- increase knowledge and capability
I found one of the finest frameworks in
Drupal based on LAMP made to meet today's real world customer needs and to interact with other software tools such as
MySQL,
PHP, CSS and AJAX tools like
DOJO,
PROTOTYPE,
RICO or
SCRIPTACULOUS. Most of them are industry supported and are recommended because they usually provide a higher quality than your own, offer established developer and user communities and are supported by IDE's. Here's a video about what's new in Drupal 4.7, provided by a Drupal community member:
