Celebration of Search Technology, Peer-To-Peer Networks and Blogs
The latest Nielsen//Netratings analysis shows, that the major german internet shopping sites, Amazon, OTTO, Neckermann, lost between 9% and 12% unique visitors in the months of November and December 2004 compared to the year before.
The winner were shopping bots like Yahoo's Kelkoo +37% and shopping malls like T-Online +7%.
This indicates the major trend: A proceeding structural change in the (german) internet. People tend to make use of product search technology (see Google's Froogle), peer-to-peer networks (personal recommendations) and last but not least blogging.
This is a great chance of growth for smaller traders. Niche products can be extremly successful now.

'People's behavior in researching buying related information and decision making has changed during the last months. Their favorite methods include researching buying related price comparison sites, RSS-feeds, review sites, blogs and travel sites, while consumer generated content and peer-reviews have a huge impact on their decision making.'
